Even the most beautiful pieces of framed art can still look awkward if they are not hung logically. Some of the key considerations are:
  • Choosing framed art that fits the space where it will hang
  • Hang frames in reasonably close proximity to the furniture below it to create unison
  • Hang frames at eye level for maximum viewing pleasure, keeping in mind people stand in foyers and halls and sit in many other spaces so that height can vary

Framing Photography

All too often photos are placed into photo frames or simple readymades when they could look so much more special in custom frame designs. There should always be an air space between the glass and the photo...something that is often neglected unless it is custom framed.

When choosing mats and frames for your photos, think about the subject, era, color, style, and substrate. When you pay attention to each of these categories, your frame design will be the most flattering to the photo.
Unless you own the digital file or negative to create a new photo, you should always treat photos like any other work of art by using conservation grade framing materials.

New Trend Leaning Art

It has become highly fashionable to lean framed art. This can be done for functional or purely aesthetic reasons. If you are downsizing and have more framed art than wall space, you can lean one piece in front of another to consolidate your collection. Overlapping framed art adds dimension and interest, as well as bringing a new look to the art itself.

Hanging A Single Piece of Art

Single pieces offer a lot of flexibility, but there are still general guidelines that will help your presentations. Typically the frame should not be longer than the furniture piece below it, although this is not a firm rule. Avoid heavy frames over dainty furniture or petite framing over massive furniture to create balance. In small spaces avoid overly dramatic art that is best viewed from a distance and in a large space choose a piece that can be seen and enjoyed from across the room.

How to care for Mirrors

To ensure that your mirror stays in premium condition we recommend the following cleaning practices:

The safest cleaner for a mirror is clean, warm water used with a soft, grit-free cloth. Never use cleaners with acid, alkaline or ammonia bases. These cleaners will attack the edges and backing of the mirror causing blackened areas.

Never spray any glass cleaner directly onto a mirror. Instead, apply the cleaner to a soft cloth and then wipe the mirror.

Good ventilation will keep a mirror from "sweating" and creating condensing liquids which can, over time, be corrosive and cause damage.

Picture Framing Why Custom!

My personal feeling about custom picture framing is that it adds to your home or office decor.  After spending the last 13+ years working with art and framing I have seen alot of homes and offices without artwork on the walls and no matter how good the design, the room still looks empty.  Not untill there is something on the walls does the interior start to come together.  Of course you could pickup a framed picture from almost any store and it will do the job for a little while.  The reason for custom picture framing is to take something that you love and to display it for years to come and to enjoy it everyday.  Making your room yours is the idea.  Ever walk into your friends home and say I have that or I have seen that at the large store with the same overseas garbage that will end up being tossed because it lasted about a minute. Take back your dollar and get the most for it.  In our shop we only use mouldings made in the US or Italy.  Every mat is acid free and every job is perfect from design to completion.  We take mat colors and moulding and make a work of art the best it can be.  Next time you have something to be framed make sure you support your local framer and don't be taken by 50% Off there is not that much profit in a frame job.
